Album Notes & Community Reviews
Compiled by Billy Vera from Mayfield's sessions of the early 1950s, the set gathers the recordings that made him the Poet Laureate of the Blues, including his signature 'Please Send Me Someone to Love'. Mayfield wrote in a conversational baritone style that influenced generations of R&B singers, and he later supplied Ray Charles with the hit 'Hit the Road Jack'.
