Album Notes & Community Reviews

The debut release from the legendary Mount Vernon duo instantly established them as pioneers of the jazz-rap aesthetic. Pete Rock's meticulous, horn-heavy sampling and signature use of filtered basslines perfectly complemented C.L. Smooth's remarkably fluid, conscious lyricism. Anchored by the breakout track 'The Creator', the EP directly paved the way for their masterpiece full-length, 'Mecca and the Soul Brother'.
