Acholitronix

Acholitronix is the electronic dance music of the Acholi people of northern Uganda, built by wedding producers in Gulu and Lira who recreated the larakaraka courtship repertoire, its calabash percussion, ankle bells and call-and-response singing, on home computers. Played at extreme tempos often above 160 BPM, it replaces costly live wedding troupes with a single producer-performer, and reached international audiences through the Kampala label #Nyege Nyege Tapes# and its pioneers *Otim Alpha* and *Leo P'Layeng*. Its producers also work as videographers and masters of ceremony, selling the complete celebration as one package.
