Acidcore

Acidcore is the hardest strain of acid techno, built by driving the Roland TB-303 far beyond its house-music role: resonant basslines are pushed through overdriven mixers and distortion until the instrument snarls, over hardcore kick drums at tempos commonly between 150 and 180 BPM. It grew out of the early-1990s free-party and sound-system underground — London's *Spiral Tribe* and their Network 23 label in Europe, *Woody McBride* and the Drop Bass Network in the American Midwest — where tracks were tools for illegal raves and teknivals rather than club records, and were released mostly as 12-inch singles on small, short-lived labels.
