Acousmatic Music
Originating from the musique concr猫te experiments of *Pierre Schaeffer* in the late 1940s, acousmatic music is a form of electroacoustic composition created for fixed media and diffused through loudspeakers. The form divorces sound from its visual source, presenting a purely sonic art intended for what Schaeffer termed "reduced listening." Composers manipulate recorded sounds鈥攂oth natural and synthesized鈥攖hrough tape editing, spatialization, and signal processing to construct intricate sonic narratives. While primarily flourishing in academic and avant-garde circles, its techniques of sound organization and textural abstraction have profoundly shaped sound design for film, experimental electronic music, and immersive audio installations.
