Afropiano

Afropiano is the Nigerian fusion of South African amapiano with afrobeats, named in the early 2020s as Lagos artists adopted amapiano's rolling log drum, jazzy chords and spacious grooves beneath Nigerian melodic singing and pidgin lyric writing. Where Johannesburg amapiano grew from house and kwaito, afropiano is song-led: *Asake*'s fuji-inflected Yoruba melodies, *Young Jonn*'s producer-turned-singer pop and *Seyi Vibez*'s street-pop all ride the log drum pattern. The style became the dominant sound of Nigerian pop between 2022 and 2024, blurring the border between the two countries' dance music industries.
