Akishibu-kei

Akishibu-kei, literally "Akihabara–Shibuya style", is a Japanese pop trend of the 2000s that fused the two Tokyo subcultures named in the portmanteau: Shibuya-kei, the sophisticated, Western-facing pop of 1990s Shibuya, and Akiba-kei, the anime and gaming otaku culture of Akihabara. In practice it described Shibuya-kei musicians — *Yasuharu Konishi*, *Keitaro Takanami* and their peers — writing and producing themes for anime, and later a generation of idol groups, notably *Dempagumi.inc* and *Especia*, whose songs combined Shibuya-kei's eclectic arrangements and lounge and French-pop references with denpa energy and otaku subject matter.
