Ambient Jazz

Ambient Jazz merges the atmospheric principles of ambient music with the harmonic language and improvisational ethos of jazz. Its origins trace to the textural explorations of late 1970s spiritual jazz and the spacious productions of the #ECM Records# catalog, particularly works like *Pat Metheny & Lyle Mays*'s "As Falls Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls". The form utilizes traditional jazz instrumentation鈥攑iano, saxophone, double bass鈥攂ut subjects them to electronic processing, looping, and synthesized layering. Rather than focusing on melodic solos, the music prioritizes the creation of immersive, slowly evolving sound fields, shaping a contemplative and introspective listening experience that exists at the periphery of both genres.
