Ambient Plugg

Ambient plugg is a style of underground rap that merges the plugg production template — the lush synth pads, bell and pluck melodies and airy, minimal drums developed by Atlanta producers such as *MexikoDro* — with the textures of ambient music. Beats are slowed and washed in reverb until they function as atmosphere, and vocalists deliver hushed, heavily processed, often diaristic verses that sit inside the mix rather than on top of it. The style is associated with the New York collective *Shed Theory* and with artists including *Joeyy*, *Marlon DuBois* and *Edward Skeletrix*, and circulated through SoundCloud in the early 2020s.
