Aquacrunk

Aquacrunk is a Glasgow-born offshoot of wonky hip hop and dubstep, named half in jest from a club flyer and codified by the #LuckyMe# collective. Producers such as *Rustie* and *Hudson Mohawke* slowed crunk and Dirty South rap beats to a low-slung lurch, then flooded them with morphing, pitch-bent basslines, aquatic synth washes, R&B chords and video-game melody. The result is maximalist where dubstep was austere: unstable tempos, woozy detune and sudden drops, issued mainly as EPs and singles from Glasgow's Numbers and LuckyMe circles between roughly 2007 and 2012.
