Argentine Music

Argentine music is the national body of music of Argentina, joining the tango of Buenos Aires and the RÃo de la Plata, the folkloric traditions of the interior — zamba, chacarera, chamamé and the payada balladry of the pampas — and the rock nacional that developed from the late 1960s. *Carlos Gardel* made tango song an international form, *Astor Piazzolla* rebuilt it as concert music, *Atahualpa Yupanqui* and *Mercedes Sosa* carried the folklore of the interior worldwide, and *Charly GarcÃa*, *Luis Alberto Spinetta* and *Soda Stereo* made Spanish-language rock a national institution.
