Atlanta Bass

Atlanta bass is the Atlanta, Georgia variant of Miami bass that developed from the late 1980s, built for car sound systems and skating rinks: booming Roland TR-808 bass, fast tempos around 125 to 135 BPM, call-and-response chants and party lyrics delivered with a Georgia inflection. Its first stars were *MC Shy-D*, produced by *DJ Toomp*, and *Kilo Ali*; *Tag Team*'s "Whoomp! (There It Is)" (1993) took the sound national, and *Jermaine Dupri*'s #So So Def# compilations, above all "So So Def Bass All-Stars" (1996), home of *Ghost Town DJ's*' "My Boo", codified the style before it fed into crunk.
