Audio Documentary

Audio Documentary

Audio Documentary is the nonfiction form of recorded sound that builds factual narrative from actuality — field recordings, interviews, archival tape and narration — rather than from scripted performance alone. Its landmark works treat the tape recorder as a witness: *Edward R. Murrow*'s "I Can Hear It Now" assembled the voices of an era from news recordings, and the BBC Radio Ballads of *Ewan MacColl*, *Charles Parker* and *Peggy Seeger* wove workers' own speech into composed song. Issued on LP and later CD, these programs stand as albums whose subject is the documented world.
