Autonomic

Autonomic is a strain of drum and bass that emerged in London around 2009, led by *dBridge* and *Instra:mental* through their Autonomic podcast and club night and the #Exit Records# label. Against the genre's prevailing maximalism it proposed reduction: half-time rhythms at drum and bass tempo, sparse synthetic percussion, deep sub-bass and melancholic synth work indebted to Detroit techno, IDM and film soundtracks. Its key documents are *dBridge*'s "The Gemini Principle", *Instra:mental*'s "Resolution 653", *ASC*'s "Nothing Is Certain" and the #Exit Records# compilations "Mosaic Volume 1" and "Mosaic Volume 2", and its influence reshaped experimental bass music.
