Bachata

Bachata

Bachata is a Dominican guitar music that arose in the bars and brothels of Santo Domingo in the early 1960s, long stigmatised as m煤sica de amargue, music of bitterness. Its core is the requinto lead guitar's syncopated, arpeggiated lines over rhythm guitar, bong贸, g眉ira and bass, in a slow bolero-derived metre that anchors the sensual partner dance of the same name. From marginalised street music it became, through *Juan Luis Guerra* and the Bronx-born *Aventura*, one of the most commercially successful Latin genres worldwide.
