Baltic Pop

Baltic Pop

Baltic pop is the popular music of the Baltic states — Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania — as it developed after the restoration of independence in 1991. Sung mainly in Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian and English, it spans dance-pop, pop-rock and electronic styles shaped by the shared institutions of the region, above all the Eurovision Song Contest, through which acts such as *Brainstorm*, *Vanilla Ninja* and *The Roop* reached European audiences. Domestic industries centred on Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius balance folk inflections and choral traditions against Scandinavian and Western pop production.
