Baltimore Club

Baltimore Club

Baltimore club is the breakbeat house music created in Baltimore in the early 1990s by DJs including *Scottie B*, *DJ Technics* and *Frank Ski*. It runs at roughly 130 BPM on an eight-beat structure built from two sampled breaks — *Lyn Collins*' "Think (About It)" and *Gaz*'s "Sing Sing" — chopped, looped and driven under shouted vocal fragments sampled from hip hop, go-go and the DJs' own call-and-response routines. Raw, repetitive and relentlessly physical, the music was made by and for the city's club nights, circulated on local labels such as #Unruly Records#, and remained a fiercely local institution even as it later influenced Jersey club and producers worldwide.
