Batida

Batida is an electronic dance music genre that emerged in the 2000s in Lisbon's Afro-Portuguese neighborhoods, where producers of Angolan and Cape Verdean descent fused kuduro, tarraxinha, kizomba and zouk with house and techno production. Built in FL Studio from short loops, siren-like synth leads and fractured, high-tempo percussion, it was developed by *DJ Nervoso*, *DJ Marfox* and the crews around the label #PrÃncipe Discos#, including *DJ Nigga Fox*, *NÃdia* and *DJ Firmeza*. The name, Portuguese for "beat" or "crash", was popularized by Marfox to describe the sound's collision of African diasporic rhythms and European club music.
