Beat/Mod

Originating in the United Kingdom during the early 1960s, Beat music emerged from a confluence of American R&B, rock and roll, and the domestic skiffle boom. It is defined by a core ensemble of electric guitars, bass, and drums delivering energetic, guitar-driven melodies over a driving 4/4 time signature. Rooted in youthful exuberance and the sharp, fashion-conscious sensibility of the Mod subculture, the style was initially propelled by Liverpool's "Merseybeat" sound. Spearheaded by groups like *The Beatles*, the genre achieved global commercial success and laid the foundational musical and cultural groundwork from which psychedelic rock and British blues rock would later diverge.
