Bitpop

Bitpop

Bitpop is a form of electronic pop music made with the sound chips of 8-bit home computers and game consoles such as the Commodore 64, the Nintendo Entertainment System and the Game Boy, combined with conventional pop songwriting, vocals and modern production. Where chiptune often treats the hardware's constraints as the aesthetic itself, bitpop uses square waves, rapid arpeggios and noise channels as one element within accessible, melody-led songs, frequently adding guitars, live drums and synthesizers. The style emerged from the online micromusic scene of the late 1990s and remains closely tied to video game culture and tracker software.
