Black 'n' Roll

Black 'n' Roll

Black 'n' roll is a strain of black metal that reintroduces the swing, groove and songcraft of rock and roll and punk into the genre's tremolo riffs, harsh singing and satanic imagery. *Darkthrone* pioneered the approach on their late-2000s albums, and Norway's *Kvelertak* carried it to international audiences from 2010 with anthemic choruses and triple-guitar arrangements. American acts such as *Midnight* pursue a leaner, *Mot枚rhead*-indebted variant. The style keeps black metal's raw attack and transgressive stance while restoring verse-chorus momentum, guitar solos and a celebratory, beer-raising physicality foreign to the genre's atmospheric wing.
