Blackened Trap

Blackened trap is a fusion of trap and black metal that emerged in the mid-2010s underground, principally in the United States. Producers build trap frameworks of 808 bass, triplet hi-hats and minor-key loops, then blacken them with tremolo-picked guitar textures, blast-beat passages, distorted lo-fi mixing and vocals that alternate rapping with black-metal shrieks and growls. Satanic, occult and horror imagery replaces both trap's street narrative and metal's fantasy subject matter. Its central figure, *Ghostemane*, moved from SoundCloud rap to albums such as "N/O/I/S/E" (2018) and "ANTI-ICON" (2020), alongside *Ho99o9*, *City Morgue* and *Kim Dracula*.
