Bop

Bop is the bright, dance-centred rap style that emerged from Chicago's West Side in 2013 as a deliberate counterweight to drill. Built on bouncy, melodic production and heavy Auto-Tune, it pairs sing-song hooks about partying, clothes and money with the boppin dance culture promoted through *DJ Moondawg*'s "We Invented the Bop" mixtape brand. Its defining act, *Sicko Mobb*, the duo of *Lil Trav* and *Lil Ceno* from North Lawndale, codified the sound on "Super Saiyan Vol. 1" (2013), and their single "Fiesta" carried bop to a major-label deal before the scene receded into the city's dance underground.
