Bounce

Bounce is the New Orleans form of hip hop that emerged in the early 1990s, built on two sampled breakbeats, the 'Triggerman' beat drawn from *The Showboys*' "Drag Rap" and the 'Brown Beat', looped under call-and-response chants, party commands and hyperlocal references. Pioneered by DJs and MCs such as *DJ Jimi*, *DJ Jubilee* and *Katey Red*, it powered block parties and clubs and reached national audiences through *Juvenile* and the #Cash Money Records# roster. Its 'sissy bounce' wing, led by *Katey Red* and *Big Freedia*, later carried the sound to mainstream attention.
