Bounce Beat

Bounce beat is the faster, youth-driven offshoot of Washington, D.C. go-go that emerged from the city's teenage band circuit in the 1990s and 2000s. Where classic go-go rolls at a moderate pocket, bounce beat pushes the tempo, hardens the percussion with rototoms, timbales and congas, and leans on keyboards and chanted call-and-response over long, unbroken dancefloor stretches. Its flagship act, *TCB Bounce Beat Kings*, led by *Reggie "Polo" Burwell*, gave the style its name, its radio platform and its streaming-era catalogue, while older bands such as *Rare Essence* and *Junkyard Band* supplied its musical foundation.
