Bouncy Techno

Bouncy Techno

Bouncy techno is the hardcore rave style that developed in Scotland and northern England in the early 1990s, an accessible, euphoric reinterpretation of Dutch gabber. It runs at roughly 160 to 180 BPM, pairing the distorted kick drum and hoover stabs of Rotterdam hardcore with piano-house riffs, breakbeat-hardcore sampling, Italo-house melody and novelty humour. *Scott Brown* codified the sound under aliases including *Bass X* and *Q-Tex*, *Ultra-Sonic* took it to the charts, and Dutch producers such as *Paul Elstak* returned it to the Netherlands as happy gabber. The style collapsed by about 1997, absorbed into UK hardcore.
