Briddim

Briddim

Briddim is a hybrid of brostep and riddim, the two heaviest branches of dubstep, that took shape in the mid-2010s around the #Disciple# label roster. From riddim it takes the wobbling, single-note bass patterns looped at half-time; from brostep, the maximalist sound design, metallic growls, stacked layers and festival-scale drops of *Barely Alive* and *Virtual Riot*. The term — a portmanteau credited to the scene itself — distinguishes productions that keep riddim's hypnotic repetition while engineering every wobble with brostep's precision, and it was popularised by collaborations and back-to-back releases from the two acts who defined both parent styles.
