Brutal Deathcore

Brutal deathcore is the strain of deathcore pushed toward brutal death metal: down-tuned, palm-muted riffing and slam passages at extreme tempos, guttural and pig-squeal vocals, and breakdowns of unusual density and length. Where mainstream deathcore balances metalcore choruses against its heaviness, the brutal variant strips away melody almost entirely, taking its cues from *Suffocation*-lineage brutal death metal and slam as much as from hardcore. The term is used of acts such as *Ingested*, whose "Surpassing the Boundaries of Human Suffering" (2009) was framed on release as a brutal death metal and deathcore hybrid, alongside *Signs of the Swarm*, *Vulvodynia* and *Within Destruction*.
