Celtic Metal

Celtic Metal merges the aggressive tonality of heavy metal with the melodic and instrumental traditions of Celtic folk music. Originating from early experiments by folk metal pioneers like *Skyclad*, the subgenre was formalized in the early 1990s by Irish bands such as *Cruachan* and *Primordial*. Its sonic identity is forged by contrasting distorted electric guitars and double-bass drumming with traditional instruments like the fiddle, tin whistle, and uilleann pipes. This fusion creates a sound that is simultaneously epic, melancholic, and anthemic, exploring themes of mythology and cultural heritage.
