Celtic Punk

Celtic punk merges the raw, accelerated energy of punk rock with the melodic structures and instrumentation of traditional Celtic folk music. Originating in the 1980s, it layers distorted guitars, driving basslines and aggressive drumming with folk instruments such as the tin whistle, fiddle, accordion and banjo. Its repertoire frequently explores working-class identity, political dissent and cultural heritage, particularly within the Irish diaspora. The resulting texture is a volatile yet celebratory mix of pub singalong and mosh-pit anthem, a form that has sustained a dedicated global following while periodically influencing mainstream rock.
