Chaotic Hardcore

Chaotic Hardcore is a strain of hardcore punk and metalcore defined by structural disorder: abrupt tempo and metre changes, dissonant guitar figures, screamed delivery and songs that refuse verse-chorus resolution. Formed in the late 1990s United States around *Converge*, *Botch* and *The Dillinger Escape Plan*, it absorbed grindcore's violence and progressive metal's technique into short, volatile, densely packed compositions. The style's precision beneath apparent disorder, and its emotional extremity, made it a lasting reference point for extreme underground music everywhere.
