Chap Hop

Chap Hop

Chap hop is a British comic hip-hop style that satirises national stereotypes through the persona of the Edwardian gentleman: performers rap in received pronunciation about tea, cricket, tweed and imperial nostalgia over music-hall-inflected beats and samples. Developed in the late 2000s within the steampunk scene by *Professor Elemental* and *Mr. B The Gentleman Rhymer*, whose public rivalry helped define the form, it pairs battle-rap structures and vaudeville patter with banjolele, piano and brass-band colour, treating the exaggeration of upper-class manners as both subject and joke.
