Chopper

Chopper is a style of hip hop defined by extremely fast rapping: dense, precisely enunciated verses delivered at double-time speeds, packing maximum syllables into each bar through internal rhyme and controlled breath. It originated in the Midwestern United States in the early 1990s with *Bone Thugs-n-Harmony* in Cleveland and *Twista* in Chicago, and was codified as a named style by Kansas City's *Tech N9ne*, whose 'Choppers' posse cuts gathered fast rappers first regionally and then worldwide. The name borrows slang for an automatic weapon — and, in *Twista*'s image, a helicopter — likening the delivery to rapid fire.
