Christian Pop

Christian Pop

Christian pop is popular music made within the contemporary Christian music industry, matching the production and songcraft of mainstream pop and soft rock to lyrics of Christian faith, worship and testimony. It professionalised in the 1970s and 1980s around labels such as #Word# and #Sparrow#, and crossed into the mainstream in the 1990s through *Amy Grant*'s "Heart in Motion", *Michael W. Smith*, *dc Talk*, *Jars of Clay* and *Sixpence None the Richer*, whose hits received secular radio play. The field remains one of the largest in American music retail, spanning adult contemporary balladry, pop-rock and, more recently, the stadium scale of *Lauren Daigle* and *MercyMe*.
