Cocktail Nation

Cocktail Nation was the name given to the American lounge and swing revival of the 1990s, a loose movement of bands and audiences that revived the music and presentation of the 1950s and early 1960s cocktail era. Its musicians drew on swing, jump blues, exotica, space-age bachelor-pad pop and Latin jazz, performed in vintage dress with an ironic but affectionate polish, as a debonair alternative to grunge and alternative rock. Centred on club scenes in Los Angeles, San Francisco and other cities, the revival briefly carried revivalist swing into the pop charts before subsiding at the decade's end.
