Colour Bass

Colour Bass

Colour bass is a style of melodic dubstep named by the British producer *Chime*, who coined the term in 2016 for bass sounds processed through pitch-mapping so that every note carries a shifting, chordal tone colour. Where brostep favours dark, metallic aggression, colour bass pairs heavy drops with bright major-key harmony, chiptune and video-game melodies, arpeggios and euphoric supersaws. Developed by *Chime*, *Ace Aura*, *Skybreak*, *Sharks* and *Papa Khan* around the labels #Rushdown# and #Disciple#, it is largely a singles and EP culture; *Chime*'s "Aetherborne" is a rare full-length statement.
