Concert Band

Concert band music is the repertoire written and arranged for the symphonic wind band: full woodwind, brass and percussion sections performing original works, transcriptions and marches in the concert hall rather than on the field. The medium was established as an art form by *Gustav Holst*'s two suites and *Percy Grainger*'s "Lincolnshire Posy", and professionalised by *Frederick Fennell*, whose *Eastman Wind Ensemble*, founded in 1952, and its #Mercury# Living Presence recordings set the standard every later ensemble, from the *Dallas Wind Symphony* to the *Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra*, has measured itself against.
