Copla

Copla, also called canción española, is the Spanish popular song form that flourished from the 1930s to the 1950s: dramatic, story-driven songs of love, jealousy, honour and fate, written largely by the team of *Quintero, León y Quiroga* and sung with orchestral accompaniment and theatrical delivery. Descended from the cuplé and the tonadilla, it was defined by singers such as *Concha Piquer*, *Lola Flores* and *Imperio Argentina*, declined under the pop era, and was revived from the 1980s by *Carlos Cano*, *RocÃo Jurado* and *Isabel Pantoja*.
