Crack rock steady is a New York-born fusion of ska-punk, crust punk, and hardcore, named in bleak jest after crack cocaine and the rocksteady beat. Pioneered by *Choking Victim* and *Left枚ver Crack*, it alternates upstroke ska passages with blast-beat crust sections, barked and sung vocals, and lyrics steeped in squatter politics, anti-authoritarianism, and the economics of addiction. Albums such as "No Gods / No Managers" and "Fuck World Trade" defined a deliberately abrasive house-punk aesthetic, recorded cheaply and issued by labels like #Hellcat Records# and #Alternative Tentacles#, that later acts including *Star Fucking Hipsters* and *Morning Glory* carried forward.
