Crossover Prog

Crossover prog is the category used by #Prog Archives# for progressive rock bands whose music crosses into the pop mainstream: full progressive technique, in extended compositions, orchestral colour and conceptual ambition, delivered in songs built for radio. Its defining acts are *Supertramp*, *Electric Light Orchestra* and *The Moody Blues*, with *The Alan Parsons Project*, *Be-Bop Deluxe* and *Nektar* behind them. Where symphonic prog pursued complexity for its own sake, crossover prog subordinated it to melody and the single, producing some of the biggest-selling albums of the 1970s, among them "Breakfast in America" and "Out of the Blue".
