Cumbia mexicana

Cumbia mexicana

Cumbia mexicana is Mexico's national adaptation of Colombian cumbia, reshaped from the 1950s onward by orchestra leaders, Monterrey's rebajada DJs and the sonidero sound-system culture of Mexico City's barrios. It runs from the romantic grupero wave of *Los Bukis* and *Los Yonics* through *Aniceto Molina*'s accordion showmanship to the cumbia sonidera of *Los 脕ngeles Azules* and *Celso Pi帽a*'s rebajada, slowed and echo-drenched for neighbourhood dances. No Mexican wedding, quincea帽era or street party is complete without it, and its reach extends across the United States wherever Mexican communities gather.
