D-Beat

Originating in the United Kingdom during the early 1980s, D-beat is a subgenre of hardcore punk defined by a specific drum pattern developed by the band Discharge. The style merges the raw velocity of punk with the sonic weight of heavy metal, characterized by heavily distorted, grinding guitars, a prominent bass, and shouted, declamatory vocals. Its lyrical content often addresses themes of war, social control, and anarchism. While rarely achieving mainstream commercial notice, D-beat's framework became a primary influence on adjacent genres such as crust punk, thrash metal, and various forms of extreme metal, shaping a significant portion of underground music.
