Dance-Rock

Dance-rock is rock music built explicitly for the dancefloor, in which guitar bands adopt the rhythms of disco, funk and later house and electronic dance music without abandoning song form. Its first wave joined post-punk to disco in *Talking Heads*, *New Order* and *INXS*; a second, in the 2000s, put *LCD Soundsystem*, *Franz Ferdinand* and *The Rapture* in indie clubs. It differs from dance-punk by its smoother, pop-facing production and funk basslines. At its best it dissolves the boundary between concert and club, making the audience a dancing crowd rather than spectators.
