Dark Electro

Dark Electro

Dark electro is a subgenre of electro-industrial that developed in central Europe in the early 1990s, fusing the sequenced dance rhythms of EBM with horror-film atmosphere and occult subject matter. Its sound combines relentless electronic beats with minor-key synthesizer layers, sampled effects and grunted or heavily distorted vocals, producing music that is simultaneously danceable and funereal. The term was first used in December 1992 in connection with "Brainstorming", the debut album by the Munich group *yelworC*, and was codified by German labels such as #Celtic Circle Productions# and acts including *Placebo Effect* and *amGod*.
