Darkcore

Darkcore is the dark wing of Dutch hardcore techno: a slower, heavier strain of gabber built on distorted kicks, industrial noise, horror samples and funereal melody, developed in the early 2000s around *DJ Ruffneck*'s #Enzyme Records#. Where mainstream hardcore pursued euphoria, darkcore pursued dread, drawing on doom metal's tempos and industrial music's textures; *Ophidian*'s album "Blackbox" (2003), the record carrying this tag in the database, is its defining long-player. The name had earlier served for the dark jungle of 1993, a separate usage the hardcore sense displaced within its own scene.
