Death-Doom Metal

Death-Doom Metal

Death-doom metal merges the slow, oppressive tempos and melancholic atmosphere of doom metal with the guttural vocals, distorted riffing, and occasional blast beats of death metal. Emerging in the late 1980s with acts like *Winter* and *Autopsy*, the genre was codified in the early 1990s by the #Peaceville# Records roster, including *Paradise Lost* and *My Dying Bride*. Its sonic identity is built on a dynamic contrast between crushing slowness and aggressive speed, creating a soundscape of profound despair and visceral heaviness. This fusion established a new vector for extreme metal, influencing the development of both gothic metal and the even slower funeral doom subgenre.
