Deathstep

Deathstep

Deathstep is a subgenre of dubstep that fuses brostep's machine-gun bass design with the imagery, samples and aggression of death metal. Built at around 140 beats per minute on half-time drums, it layers distorted mid-range bass growls, horror-film samples, demonic vocal snippets and occasional guitar-like riffs into tracks engineered for maximum impact. The term was coined independently in 2009 by *Mobthrow* and *Substep Infrabass*, consolidated by *Bratkilla*'s 2011 LP, and carried by producers such as *Code: Pandorum*, *Sadhu* and *Mantis* through labels such as #Crowsnest Audio# and #Disciple#. It remains an EP- and single-driven underground style.
