Deep Tech

Deep tech is a stripped-back strain of house music that emerged from the British underground in the early 2010s, fusing the minimalism of tech house with the swung drums, synth stabs and bass weight of UK garage and speed garage. Tracks are assembled from few elements: sub-heavy rolling basslines, clipped vocal fragments, shuffled hi-hats and sparse chord stabs, arranged for long DJ blends. Championed by *Mark Radford* and his #Audio Rehab# label, and later codified as a retail category by #Beatport#, deep tech favours groove, space and low-end pressure over melody or songcraft, occupying the ground between deep house's warmth and techno's austerity.
