Deutschrock

Deutschrock

Deutschrock is rock music sung in German, developed in West Germany from the late 1960s as musicians rejected imitation of Anglo-American models and wrote in their own language, including regional dialects. *Ihre Kinder* released the first German-language rock album in 1970; *Ton Steine Scherben* gave the music an agitprop edge, *Udo Lindenberg* made colloquial German commercially viable, and *BAP* sang in K枚lsch. Deutschrock is distinct from the largely instrumental, export-oriented Krautrock it grew alongside and from the Neue Deutsche Welle that succeeded it, favouring direct songcraft, social comment and stadium-scale choruses.
