Digital Cumbia

Digital cumbia is a form of electronic dance music that emerged in Buenos Aires in the mid-2000s, in which producers rework cumbia, Latin America's most widespread dance rhythm, with the tools of club and bass music. Its tracks loop the genre's characteristic guitar and guacharaca patterns, accordion or synthesizer melodies and slowed sonidera echoes over programmed beats drawn from dubstep, hip-hop, dancehall and techno. Centered on the Zizek club nights and #ZZK Records#, the style spread across Latin America and its diaspora, connecting cumbia's working-class dancefloors with international electronic music circuits.
